Ahh, its that time of year again: Families getting together for marathon egg-rolling sessions, houses filled with incense sticks and peach blossoms, or testing patience with the crazy drivers of Little Saigon. Tết is drawing near! To get into the spirit we’ll be passing out some red envelopes to show our appreciation for all you nomsters coming by the truck for your banh mi fixes.

We love firecrackers…just not too close to the truck! :D

Help Support Haiti Disaster Relief with Nom Nom

A week has gone by since the horrific Haiti earthquake, with groups and non-profits trying their hardest to help those in need. We at Nom Nom Truck are glad to be part of the Food Trucks for Haiti event at Tlofts to do our part in raising money for relief efforts. We are donating ALL of our profits to the Red Cross. We hope you will join us not only for some nom nomin’ good times, but help us raise money for Haiti. Here is a list of organizations to help the survivors. You can RSVP to the even here. Thanks to our Nom Nom friends on Twitter we found out we’re the Food Truck of the Week on Zagat! We are so excited for being featured on such a reputable site…early Christmas gift for us!

We are all working really hard in making Nom Nom Truck better and tastier on our journey (heck…I’m even surprised how well we’ve gotten at driving the Nominator in crrrazy LA!) Thank you everyone for your love and support! Looking forward to 2010!

Nightmare on Nom Nom Street

We had an absolute blast running around LA for Halloween weekend. Zombiethon and the 6th Street Halloween Block Party was soooo much fun and we loved everyone that came up dressed in their cute/scary/weird costumes! Tacos all around!

Sadly, we got the boot from the popos at about 1am, so the Nominator had to turn into a pumpkin. :( Oh wellz…we are still very much ready to hit the streets with all the tasty banh mi (I welcome all costumes for amusement).

Honda

Last week Nom Nom Truck ventured off to South Bay and parked at the Honda Building in Torrance. Even though food trucks are only allowed in a specific street located about fifteen minutes from the offices, people came out for their lunch break with a lil’ leg stretch to try us out! Special thank you for the whole Research and Development department for spreading the good eats!

We are all getting accustomed to driving the Nom out on the freeway and trying out new locations (which evidently means the occasional hairy u-turns and jigsaw puzzle-like parking situations). Thank you for those that came out from all over South Bay from our Twitter as well. We will surely be back to provide you with the banh mi fix!

My Trip to France

Bon Jour! While Dave and Misa were hard at work on Nom Nom, I took a lil’ detour to France on an eye-opening and belt-loosening experience! When it comes to the iconic baquette, theres nothing like visiting the motherland. I was way excited with all the many boulangeries and loved seeing glimpses of baguettes poking out of totes and backpacks. No wonder Vietnam embraces the baguette. So portable and satisfying! The filling of traditional French sandwiches, although more delicate in taste and texture, really helps us in understanding how the banh mi came to be :)

Along with all the tasty street food of Paris, I headed to the coastal province of Brittany and trekked through the amazing medieval walled city of Saint-Malo. They are known for their oysters and mussels and even saw the breeding field in Le Vivier-sur-Mer. I was going crazy like a seagull prying open my moules a la crème (oh how I miss you)!

Even though I will miss all the tasty treats (along with easy metro transport and sunsets at 11pm) I am excited to be back in the kitchen and work on my inspirations! Voila!
